Seapoint Under 9s caters for kids born in 2009. Boys and girls are welcome, although Seapoint is also developing a separate Girls Sections for anyone interested.
And that’s it!
Now that the season is underway it is important that everyone is registered. Registration forms are available in the Clubhouse. Without being registered players are not covered by the Club’s insurance policy. Also, without your contact details we cannot get in touch with you about training and matches etc.
And we need the money!
We train on Sunday mornings from 9.30am to 11.00am. It is important that the kids arrive on time as it is hard to arrange the session with people arriving late.
It is also important that parents are on hand to deal with any bumps and bruises that arise. With such a large group it is difficult for the coaches to give kids individual attention. Moreover, there is the possibility we may have to end a session early if the weather deteriorates.
Besides, how could you miss the action on the pitch!
Once the season is fully underway we will start to play matches – some at home and some away – against other clubs, mainly in the South Dublin area. Some of these will be centrally organised Mini Blitzes involving three or four clubs, others will be friendly matches we arrange ourselves.
At this level three pieces of kit are needed: a Seapoint jersey, boots and a gumshield. Jerseys will be on sale in the Clubhouse on Sunday mornings. The Under 8s will be starting tackling, so please avoid hoodies and tracksuit bottoms with zips.
It is essential that all players wear a gumshield.
Gumshields are easily available from all good sports shop and also in the Clubhouse. It is also important that they are fitted properly - check the following Youtube link for guidance as to how to do that.
While we encourage the players to take responsibility for having their own gumshields with them, you might like to keep a spare in the car for when they forget.
As those who have played the game will appreciate, rugby is an outdoor game played mainly in the winter months. It is not normally cancelled due to inclement weather. Cancellations only arise when pitches are unplayable or for safety reasons (e.g. high winds). For Minis we also have to be sensible when it is just too cold or wet.
But please make sure the players are dressed for the weather. We want them to enjoy themselves, not to freeze!
Like any Club, we can only exist with the active involvement of parents, off the pitch as well as on it.
Don’t worry if you haven’t played rugby before or have not been involved in Seapoint. This is Under 8s rugby – not the Six Nations!
We do, however, need to get everyone involved with the kids Garda vetted, so the sooner we get volunteers the better.
Our ambition is to make sure your kids enjoy playing rugby and enjoy being members of Seapoint. If you have any queries, please let me know.
Remember Seapoint Mini and Youth Rugby is MY Rugby – and it’s YOUR Rugby too!
