Ascough kicks penalty to steal win in closing minutes
A superb Seapoint team performance delivered a win in the closing minutes in this premier division league match. Seapoint scored early with an unconverted try, however St Marys hit back in the first half with a converted try and a penalty to leave Seapoint trailing with the half time score at 10 points to 5. St Mary's furthered their lead with another penalty shortly after half time to open the gap to 8 points. However John Ascough collected the re-start jumping high in the air and scored under the posts. Peter Duffy converted to leave Seapoint trailing by a single point.
Things look ominous when St Marys scored another try but missed the conversion. Seapoint also scored another try when they finished off a fine passing movement, However they also failed to convert the try so they still trailed by a single point going into the final 10 minutes of the match. St Mary's missed a penalty which they will surely rue, Seapoint applied a lot of pressure and gained a penalty kick to put themselves into the lead with only a few minutes left.
St Marys gave it everything in the closing minutes but the Seapoint defence stood firm and they ended up winning the fixture by the narrow margin of 2 points.
