I plan on swimming from Dalkey island to Greystones harbour on the 29th September starting at 12 midday. This swim is a distance of 15 Km plus. It will include the route from Dalkey island to Bray which was the first long distance swim recorded in Ireland back in 1884. The water temperature will be about 14.5c and the swim will take approximately 5 hours.
My grueling training schedule began many months ago with early morning swims in the pool and evening sessions in the sea. This is a very tough swim which has never been attempted in the past, but I won't let that deter me but rather spur me on all the more!! A marathon swim is a distance of 10km so in real terms I will be attempting to swim a marathon and a half!!
As you can gather swimming is my passion and with this in mind and in line with my current new job I am delighted to use this personal challenge as a fundraiser for Enable Ireland. All money raised will facilitate the planned meditation/relaxation room in our Dun Laoghaire adult service.
